24 Season 6 : Possibly the worse season ever

I glad I'm not alone with my disappointment with the latest season of 24. The season started off with a bang (literally) but it only went downhills from there with a nonsensical and repetitive plot. The whole family conspiracy is so completely unbelievable. Not only that, there was no common thread that united the story. The villains started off being the Arabs, then it was the Russians, and then the Chinese and lastly Jack's father. All in a day ???? Give me a break, what were the writers smoking ? Or were they watching Lost instead of focusing on the plot ?

It looks like 24 has been signed off for another two seasons but can this franchise hold the audience after this farce ? Apparently, Peter Liguori, President of Fox Entertainment, was not too pleased with this season either and in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel :

Liguori said "24" is a show that "reboots" each year. He compared it to a new James Bond movie, which has a different mission, villain and love interest each year.

What made me laugh was this comment to the Orlando article by a reader, Jim Treacher :

It reboots each year, but then it goes back to running the same old program.

David Chen has written an excellent and thorough treatise on how the series can be rejuvenated. David's analysis is definitely worth reading. His key recommendations are (to which I'm in complete agreement) :

1) Don’t Set It In Los Angeles
2) No More Office Romance
3) No more CTU
4) Stop Killing Characters…Or Do It Better
5) Bring Back Jack

Basically, let's do a thorough reboot. Let's unplug the show, give it a good shake, install a new operating system and then turn it on. Let's not get 24 Service Pack 1 next year again.
