The Pant Suit

Things are moving from inexplicable to the downright ludicrous in the legal world. A couple of days ago, we had the case of the successful defamation lawsuit brought by the proprietors of a restaurant against a food critic for a bad review. And now we have a case of a US District Court judge, Roy Pearson, suing his local dry cleaners for losing his pants. Here's the crazy part, he's suing for US$54 million in damages !

The Washington Post's Marc Fisher has a good synopsis of the case so far including this incredible incident during the proceedings :

After questioning eight witnesses, Pearson spent two hours telling his own story, but as he came to the part about when Soo Chung finally told him she had found the missing pants, the tale of the $10.50 alteration that went awry proved to be too much. ... Pearson paused. He struggled to breathe deeply. He could not continue. Pearson blurted a request for a break, stood up, turned around and walked out of the courtroom, tears dripping from his full and reddened eyes.
