Battle of the amateur iPod touch ads

You may have read recently that a homemade iPod touch ad has attracted the attention of Apple Marketing who have contacted the amateur ad creator, Nick Haley, to produce a professional version of the ad for television. The New York Times has the lowdown if you missed this.

UPDATE : Here's the professional version.

Nick Haley's ad is very catchy and you cannot resist watching it multiple times. It is set to a song called “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex” by a band called CSS. However, on Youtube, there is another amateur iPod touch ad set to the same song and features a very similar style. But this ad is by a gentleman named Peter Yan. It's obvious that both ads have drawn on the same source material for the visuals (Apple's original iPod touch ad) and it's uncanny that both of them have set it to the same tune and not only that, but to the same chorus in the song.

Here's where the discussion gets interesting - I grabbed the screenshot of this online exchange of comments between Nick and Peter on Youtube :

It's debatable as to who was the original creator and perhaps both of them were inspired separately to creating virtually the same ad (but it would be freaky). Both their ads are embedded below and you can at least judge for yourself which is better. I do prefer Nick's version of the ad.

UPDATE : Peter has asked me to share another version of his iPod touch ad, using a different soundtrack. I do like this second version over his first. So check it out !
