Rome
After reading many reports of petty crime in Italy and especially Rome and especially around the Termini (the central station) area, we all very apprehensive when we arrived in Rome. We were quite pleasantly surprised and we lucky that we had no security issues for the entire trip. The Termini is a very modern train station. I had expected it to be rather dingy given its less than stellar reputation.
We were ohhing and ahhing in the taxi on the way to our apartment from the station. Things were really big in Rome - statues and monuments at every other street corner. And the place was a lot cleaner than Florence. We were all coming off a low from Florence and our spirits lifted straight-away during our short ride to the apartment.
One of the best decisions we made for this whole trip was to rent apartments in Vienna and Rome. They both turned out to be great apartments, the one in Rome especially. The apartment was on Borgo Pio in Vatican City and a stone's throw from St Peter's Basilica which was at the end of the street. While the building was centuries old, the interior was very nicely renovated.
This whole trip has been very exhausting (in a good way - we saw heaps) and this terrific apartment was the best way to cap it off. We were all quite tired, so we decided to take it easy for the rest of the afternoon to just chill out and enjoy the apartment.
